Contemporary studies on Quranic ethics, especially in the field of family and gender, have expanded significantly in recent years. One of the important axes of this approach is the criticism of traditional jurisprudential interpretations of the verses on dowry, which, according to this movement, the conceptual link between dowry and obedience in traditional interpretations has been formed under the influence of patriarchal structures. The present study, using a critical analytical method, examines one of the new works that focuses on the ethical approach to the institution of family from a Quranic perspective, entitled "Justice and Beauty in Islamic Marriage: Towards Egalitarian Ethics and Laws," and includes an article by Umayma Abu Bakr, Asma Lambert, and Maleki Al-Sharmani entitled "Quranic Ethics of Marriage." In this article, using an analytical-descriptive method, the verses on dowry are explained in the light of the Quranic principles of ontological equality between men and women, marriage as a deep covenant, and the moral pillars of the conjugal bond, and the framework of Quranic ethics in understanding the verses on dowry is outlined with an exclusively moral approach. The findings of the research show that although the ethics-based approach has important achievements in highlighting the moral intentions of the Quran, paying attention to the historical context of the verses, and criticizing reductionist jurisprudential readings, in some versions, by shifting the focus of analysis from legislation to ethics, it faces the risk of weakening the normative position of the rulings and reducing the role of jurisprudence. Therefore, it is necessary to combine the ethical and jurisprudential dimensions of the dowry verses to argue that dowry in the Quran is not a sexual exchange, but a legislative gift within the framework of a comprehensive moral system. Accordingly, ethics and jurisprudence are not to be understood in opposition, but in a longitudinal and synergistic relationship, and only in the light of this convergence can an intrareligious, coherent, and methodical reading of the dowry verses be presented that is both faithful to dignity and moral justice and preserves the legitimacy of divine legislation.Contemporary studies on Quranic ethics, especially in the field of family and gender, have expanded significantly in recent years.
